Who is the queen of PyeongChang? The high flying 17 year-old American sensation Chloe Kim is bringing the gold home with her, but to her family, she already is home.
Kim, an American born Korean, has family ties in the Olympics host city of PyeongChang. Although representing the USA, Kim is receiving a lot of support from the home fans.
“There was a lot of pressure, but I’m happy I was able to do it here and do it for the fans and the family,” said Kim.
Kim led in qualifiers with a score of 91.5 beating her competition by over four points. From there on out she was the leader of the pack.
Kim has become an American sensation overnight. Although qualifying for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Kim was unable to compete because she was only 13. At the young age of 15, Kim became the first female to land back to back 1080 degree spins.
BBC has continued to update this story including screen shots of tweets from Kim herself and her fans. One of them stating that she wished she finished her breakfast the morning before her runs, and another stating her desire for ice cream during the competition. I mean who doesn’t love a good bowl of ice cream?

No, not left shark; no, not a power outage; no, not another wardrobe malfunction; yes, a selfie kid. Thirteen year old Ryan McKenna stole this years halftime show making his infamous debut by taking a selfie with entertainer Justin Timberlake during hisperformance.
Superbowl halftime shows have generated some of the most memorable on air moments in history. This Superbowl did just that; bringing rise to a young star on the largest stage.
As anyone could see from watching halftime, McKenna froze when Timberlake stood next to him. Grabbing for his phone, Mckenna immediately went in for the selfie. However, once the camera flashed his way he stopped and looked as if he was typing on his phone while a major artist was beside him. That was the moment McKenna turned into an internet sensation. If you go onto any news outlet or social media platform you could not miss selfie kid and his braces.
Standing next to a superstar, being on live television and creating one of the most talked about moments in Superbowl history; Mckenna lived it. How was your Sunday?

BBC states that their mission is to enrich people’s lives with programs and services that inform educate and entertain. They value the consumer of their news and believe that creativity is the heartbeat behind their organization.
That is no surprise when you look at their website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter feed. There have been multiple stories posted throughout the last week that have been eye candy. One example is an Instagram post featuring a woman that does her makeup with real dead bugs. Yup, you read that right. REAL DEAD BUGS!
The post features a short video that uses two or three quotes from the woman that puts these dead bugs on her face. Check her out on Instagram. It is small, but informational posts like this are what separate BBC from other news sources. They are upholding their mission statement by enriching people’s lives through this program. As creativity is the heart of the organization, this story by far takes it to another level.
While monarch butterflies, maggots and beetles on a woman’s face might sound from another world, getting to the nitty gritty news is also important to BBC.
Larry Nassar, USA Gymnastics doctor and Michigan State University Physician, will see nothing but prison bars for the rest of his life. BBC again upholds its mission to inform, educate and entertain the public with this story. Multiple articles surrounding the Nassar case have been released on all platforms of social media and BBC website.
However, BBC did not just throw words onto a page. They presented this story in an entertaining way. While there was reporting, there were also videos and photos, of not just Nassar, but of the women horrifically abused by this man. Audiences keeping up with the story were able to see day to day coverage inside the court room. They were able to feel the emotion without even being there. It allowed the public to hear from those affected rather than the perpetrator.
It will be interesting to see the new ways that BBC interacts with its viewers. So far, they are entertaining us while we are becoming informed.
How Do I look?
BBC published an article about an exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City that provides insight into the changing ideal female body types since the 18th Century.
FIT constructed this exhibition to argue that fashionability has been culturally constructed long before social media. They are encouraging more people to challenge this ideal and generate more approval for body diversity.
The article follows four centuries of fashion, describing each centuries most sought after look. Each century changed the way females looked and perceived themselves in everyday life. Whether it be having broad shoulders or a perfect waist, fashion trends set the standard for what you had to look like in order to be accepted in society.
Today, females struggle with positive body image, and with social media changing the way we view fashion, many find it difficult to keep up with the latest trends. They shame themselves for not looking like ‘the girl on Instagram’. The photos used within the article show a progression of what body part was valued more during that time period. As times changed different parts of the body were seen as more ideal. Today there are such high standards for what a perfect body looks like that there is more than one part of the body that needs to be perfect. (See Below)
Consumption of fashion is forever changing with the evolving multimedia world. Social media especially, has altered our view of the ideal body. This article generates interest through explaining different eras of fashion and progressing to where we are today.
